Mickey Rourke Will Be Fed on “Iron Man 2″
The success of The Wrestler has done wonders for Mickey Rourke. The 56-year-old star received numerous offers for high-profile films, even before the announcement of his Oscar nomination, including a villain role in the upcoming sequel for the 2008 blockbuster hit Iron Man.
A notable upgrade in Rourke’s sudden return to the A-list pool is the confirmation that he will be provided with food on the film set.
“It wasn’t a hard decision to make at all [to grant him food],” said Marvel’s Avi Arad. “We believe that an actor with Mickey’s talent is entitled to our very best treatment. We are very happy to give him food or drinks or whatever else he needs to stay healthy. It’s going to be a better movie because of it.”
Previously, Rourke had to buy his own lunch during shoots and was said to have kept to a strict diet of Taco Bell’s 89 cent wraps. The practice became well known when it was linked to a lawsuit filed by an on-set security guard against Rourke after the thesp allegedly “attacked” the crafts table. The details of the incident are kept under wraps as part of an out-of-court settlement.
“That was the old Mickey Rourke,” his agent David Unger said. “Read the trades. He’s been resurrected. I’ve always believed in him and [the rest of Hollywood] are finally starting to. This is just the first step. We’re going to make sure that he gets wardrobe, too.”
Rourke is unavailable for comment, but sources close to his publicist say that he’s “very happy” of his new perks.
